The Farm

The farm is located in St. Helens, Oregon on the land where I was born and raised. It has been passed down from my Grandparents, who’s name is on the street, Hovland Way. They moved here from North Dakota after a visit because they had never seen a place that could grow so much food. Growing up we had cherries, apples, pears, raspberries, blueberries, hazelnuts, walnuts, a huge vegetable garden and raised chickens. My grandfather farmed hay here and I will always remember him in his Dickies coveralls on his big blue tractor. My parents, sister, brother and their families all live here on different parcels tending the land. It is such a gift to be here farming with my family.

I came to steward this land in 2017 after learning the importance of native plants to our ecosystem and our pollinators. I purchased a wide range of natives, including Lupine, Flowering Currant, Oregon Grape, Elderberry and more that became the first row along Bachelor Flat. Over the last few years I’ve added fruit trees, eucalyptus, perennial and annual cut flowers including Grandmas’s peonies, dahlias, cosmos, strawflowers and more.

I would like to acknowledge the original stewards of this land, The Cowlitz People.

Regenerating this land, creating beauty for the community, building biodiversity + ecosystems and protecting pollinators will always be my priority.
